Military Service: Enlisted in Shenandoah Co. VA January 1776. Served as Private in Capt. Richard Campbells in Colonel Muhlenberges Eighth Regiment. Wounded at the Battle of Germantown. Length of service: 2 years. Allowed pension January 29, 1819 age 69 yr. SIMON HARRILL Pvt. in Capt. Joseph Bowman's payroll November 2, 1775 (Militia Company, local) Children by 1st marriage: SUSANNAH HARRILL married Thomas McClanhan January 20, 1810; REBECCA HARRILL married Thomas Reed August 3, 1810 Ref. Bond Book Frederick Co., VA Isaac Harrsion Surety, Children of SIMON HARRILL and Lydia Harrison: Seeney Harrison b. 1810; GEORGE HARRILL b. 1816. Lydia Harrison Harrill was granted pension in Warren Co. VA February 4, 1853 Pension #8895.
Item 78 JAMES HARRELL of Shenandoah Co., VA, 1777 Source: Files of The General Services Administration "JAMES HARRELL Corp. of 3rd and 4th Virginia Volunteers Regiment in Command by Colonel Thos. Elliott, Robert Lawson and Colonel James Wood. Enlisted Dec. 9, 1777 for 3 yrs; served at White Plains, N.Y., Camp Middlebrook-Robertson Farm. Scottsville-Camp Valley Forge-Camp Morristown, N.J.- He was mustered out 1783. Grnated 200 acres of land March 16, 1784 by order of Benjamine Harrison and Thomas Merriweather. His land grant is recorded in Jefferson Co., Ky. (Then Virginia) Old Kentucky Entries and Deeds by Jillson, page 336, warrant #2766. He also purchased another 400 acres in that county on Beechfork Creek 5/27/1780 near the land of WILLIAM and MOSES HARRELL. His name is listed in the 1783 Tax List for Shenandoah Co. VA.
