RICHARD and JOHN HARRELL of Nansemond Co., Virginia and Perquimans County, North Carolina, 1712
SOURCE: Harrell Family Genforum posted by Richard Rogerson March 5, 2000: "I also have HARRELLS in my Ancestry several different times and in the process of finding my Perquimans Co. HARRELLS, I stumbled upon the following tid bits of info that at least two HARRELLS were in Perq. Co. as early as 1712, and the related info as to why they came from Upper Parrish of Nansemond Va. N.C. and involves the searing of several Patents by Daniel Snourk of Perq. who by his court records was some what of a Horse Trader. In 1712 Daniel Snourk is granted 4 patents, all joining and totaling around 1200 acres in northern Perq. Co. He has 1 year to plant and seat 4 patents to keep them from lapse. He makes a deal with his friend William Ktching of Upper Parrish Nansemond Va. to brin into Carolina as many person as it will take to seat 4 Patents. william Ktchings brings several persons with him and promisses 50 acres to each. Two HARRELL, JOHN and his brother RICHARD HARRELL are members of this Expedition and as promised William Kitchen gives these brother 50 ac. each in Perq. Co. called "Burnt Pocosin". Found in Deed Book B #210 Perq. JOHN HARRELL of Upper Parrish Nansemond Va. unto RICHARD HARRELL of afforsaid province for 10 lb. "Rights as by assignment of William Kitchen to whom the patenet was granted. 1728. (apparently RICHARD HARRELL stayed in Perq. and brother JOHN returned to Nansemond and sold his joining 50 ac. to RICHARD HARRELL."
